Daging Masak Tomato

A popular dish in every Malay kitchen, these fragrant pieces of beef in a rich tomato sauce go perfectly with a steaming hot bowl of white rice

  • 1kg beef
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 7 inches ginger
  • 1 clove onion
  • 3 tsp. tomato paste
  • 4 nos. tomato
  • 10 nos. dried chilli
  • 1 stalk chinese parsley
  • 2 tbsp. ghee
  • 2 tbsp. tomato sauce
  • 1 clove big onion
  • 1 bowl coconut milk
  • 3 tbsp. fresh milk
  • salt and sugar


  • 1 no. green tomato
  • 1 no. red tomato
  • 2 nos. green chilli
  • 2 nos. red chilli


1. Blend the garlic, ginger, onion, tomato paste, tomatoes, dried chillies, chinese parsley, ghee and tomato sauce into a smooth paste.
2. Sauté all the ground ingredients until fragrant.
3. Add meat and cook for up to 15 minutes.
4. When the meat is tender, add coconut milk, milk, salt and sugar. Let it boil for a while.
5. Finally, sprinkle with onions, green tomatoes, red tomatoes, green chillies and chopped red chillies as garnish.
